Top Reads of 2018

Turtles All The Way Down – John Green
This was my first read of 2018, and honestly had I not read it, I don’t think I would have picked up a book last year. I won’t lie, I bought it purely because it was John Green’s new book, despite having not read one of his books for years. I went into it thinking that I probably wouldn’t like it because I think I preferred his writing when I was younger. Surprisingly, I really really enjoyed this. I think the portray of the main characters mental health issues was pretty spot on!

This is Going to Hurt – Adam Kay
I bought this one after I’d heard all the hype about it and saw it in Sainsbury’s for less than £4 and I think I finished it in just a few days. Not only is it hilarious throughout, but it’s also a great insight to the NHS and highlights some of the issues we still have today. I urge anyone who hasn’t read this yet to pick it up!

A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J Mass
This was, without fail, my most favourite read of 2018. I almost wish I could erase it from my memory so that I could relish in reading it for the first time all over again! The world, the characters, the writing, there wasn’t anything about it that I didn’t love. This was another super quick read for me, and I ended up buying the rest of the series to devour as soon as I’d finished this one. I have been telling anyone who will listen to please, please, PLEASE pick this up if you haven’t already.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz
This is another one that I picked up during a weekly shop in Sainsbury’s because I’d heard a few people talking about it and it wasn’t expensive. This I know for a fact I finished in the space of about three lunch breaks. (That’s three hours guys!) It’s a quick read but is definitely chock full of so much information and is honestly so moving. There were multiple moments where I just had to take a second to remind myself, that these things I was reading about, really did happen. A great read, and one to pick up for sure!

She Must Be Mad – Charly Cox
Obviously, there had to be a poetry book on here, and after much, much deliberation, it has to be this gem from Charly Cox. This is the one that I feel I related to most, there are so many poems in here that I feel like were plucked right out of my own head. If you haven’t heard about this one yet, I mean where have you been living, but also you’re gonna need to pick this one up.

Even though I didn’t read an awful lot in general last year, these were definitely some of the corkers I managed to feast my eyes on. I cannot wait to find some new, fantastic reads this year!
