Tea Time & Books...

Theatre Plans 2019

Waitress
I have been listening to the album for this musical since it first came out. There’s just something about the music that pulls you in, and I was buzzing when I found out that it was coming to the West End. Plus I was even more buzzed when I found out that it was going to be lead by Katherine McPhee, it’s a must for this year!

Dear Evan Hansen
I really don’t feel as though this one needs any explanation. Honestly, if there was only one show I could see this year, it would most definitely be this one. The music, the story, the original cast just made me fall more and more in love with it as time passed. I can guarantee that this is not one to miss.

Death of a Salesman
I saw this play first performed by a theatre group that came to our secondary school. I think it was the first piece of theatre I’d ever seen that really made me think, that sent me away with questions. I love that feeling. I’ve since read the play a few times, and its one that I love coming back to. I’m really really hoping that I can get to see this one after so many years since the first viewing.

SIX
This is another one that I feel speaks for itself. There’s been lots of buzz about this one, possibly not as in your face as the other musicals mentioned so far, but a quiet buzz surrounding it. Which to be honest, I think is the best kind of buzz. I haven’t listened to any of the music for this one, and I think it’s one that I’d like to not overly listen to before I see it. I don’t know a lot about it other than a brief overview of the plot and the fact that everyone who has seen it, has loved it.

Come From Away
I think I’m a little late to the party with this one, but I only discovered it recently. It’s another one that I don’t know a lot about other than having listened to a few snippets from the soundtrack and knowing that so many people have raved about it.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie
I watched a clip of this on something like the Oliviers last year or something and thought it had such a good story and the music seemed fab, couple that with the fact a few of my friends seeing it multiple times last year, I think its definitely one for this year.

Witness for the prosecution
This one has intrigued me for the longest time. It takes place in a courtroom and is based on the Agatha Christie novel of the same name. I think this looks like such an interesting way of giving a performance, and I know that interactive theatre is definitely becoming more popular, so I think this would be a good place to start.

Rip It Up
Do I know what this is about? No. Is all I know that it’s got a pretty dashing cast and what sounds to be an awesome soundtrack? Most definitely! I’m sold!

First Date
I was really excited when I heard about The New Musical Theatre Festival happening at The Other Place. There’s lots of shows that I would like to see during the two weeks the festival is running so picking just one was a tough choice for sure.

9 to 5
I won’t lie, I purely want to see this because I love a bit of Dolly Parton, I mean who doesn’t really. Plus, it’s got Louise Rednapp in and I loved her in Strictly!

I know I am seeing two musicals: Fiddler on the Roof at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis and Miss Saigon at the Belk Theatre in Charlotte. Both are tours- that is what I rely on. After all, I live in the United States, but not close enough to NYC.

I also want to see Aladdin (which I never saw in person) and Les Mis (which I saw in person 5 times)

I am a musical theatre fanatic.

I love going to the theatre, and a lot of these are definitely on my list to see. Great post, love it.

I always get sucked into the 99p deals, I'm a sucker for a deal! However, is it a deal when you have hundreds of books on your kindle already that you haven't read yet? 🤣 This month I picked up:

✨️ The Enigma of Room 622
✨️ Happy Place
✨️ The Wolf and the Woodsman
✨️ Notes on Heartbreak
✨️ Her Majesty's Royal Coven
✨️ Merideth Alone

Have you picked any of these up? Read any? Let me know! ☺️

Have I been telling absolutely everyone who would lend me an ear about how absolutely fantastic this new musical is? Yes, yes I have! I booked this back in November on a complete whim! Mostly because in the email I got, it was described as "part Mel Brooks, part Six, part Hamilton with a side order of One Man, Two Guvnors", and if that doesn't hook you I don't know what will! Other than the brief synopsis in the email, I went in blind, knowing nothing about the show, the music or the actors but man do I want to shout about them now.

Firstly, the Fortune Theatre felt like the perfect kind of venue for a show like this, surprisingly intimate and like you were actually involved in the action. From the very first song, I was hooked, I knew that I was in for a good one! The actors were all absolutely phenomenal, each one with comical timing that was absolutely on the money along with some fantastic pipes that were definitely easy on the ears. I laughed, I teared up, I didn't want it to end, everything from the music to the staging was absolute perfection if you ask me. @spitlip aren't a group I'd heard of before, but certainly won't be one I forget fast. I will absolutely without a single doubt be going to see this again before it closes, and only pray that it actually sticks around. Potentially the best new musical I've seen in a very, very long time! Go get your tickets now, old chap! ✌️
