Tea Time & Books...

24th August 2019

A Little (Probably Boring) Life Update!

My last post here was in April, whoops?? I could probably try and come up with some elaborate excuse why, but I won’t. Plain and simple, I just didn’t have the time or energy to blog. And for a while, I felt like that made me feel like a bit of a failure, like how could I suddenly jump back into it and pretend that everything was hunky dorey and nothing had changed? Simple answer, I couldn’t, hence the absence.

So, what’s happened since the last time I was active around these parts? I handed in my notice for a job that was really affecting my mental health, found another job, didn’t stick around long and walked out of that one too, before finally landing where I am now. I’ve been at my new job for almost 4 months now and I finally feel like I’m finding my feet and learning how to sort this home/work balance. I also fell out of love with blogging, as a whole. I stopped writing, I stopped reading other blogs, I didn’t want to take photos, I just didn’t want to be involved with any of it at all.

I think a lot of this was to do with not feeling as though I was good enough. Which then made me feel like it was pointless to even bother. I didn’t really have the time to work on content, so when I did, it felt rushed and I didn’t like it so I didn’t put it out.

And then I saw that Vix had opened the doors back up to join Grow and Glow, and I just thought why not? Worse comes to worst, I would lose a couple of quid but then I’d just move on and find some other hobby. But joining Grow and Glow may just have been the best decision I’ve made all month. In the short few weeks I’ve been a member, I have found my blogging mojo and found a group of girls in the community that are just so fantatsic and supportive. So much so, they’ve encouraged me to actually get one of my other blog ideas up and running soon, which I never would have done without their support!

I’ve worked through a few of the bundles and not only am I learning so much about the blogging world, I’m also learning a lot about who I am and the kind of presence I want to bring to the blogging community. You’ll notice that we have a new theme here, which is something I wanted to do for months but could never bring myself to do. I’m also finally self hosted, which would never have happened had I not had the help and support from the lovely girls in the Grow and Glow FB chat. I’ve invested in some presets that, I think, make my photos look better than I could ever make them look, and saves me the time I would have spent editing so I can actually write more.

So where do we go from here? Well, I’m the same gal, but I have a vision and some direction now. I’ll be trying to post at least once a week, sometimes twice. I’ve not figured out whether I’ll have a scheduled day because I feel like that’s just adding a little bit of extra pressure on right now! I’ll be focusing more on books, which will always be my first love, with a sprinkling of all the other things I love, like theatre and beauty boxes (yes, I have a problem, I know).

I’m really excited for this new chapter for Tea Time & Books, but it’s nice to know that while things seem to be changing, I’m still the same me, talking about the same things I love, but I’ll hopefully also be bringing you ‘better’ content. This is just a little hello from me, to let you know I’m still here, and I’ll be getting stuck in soon and bringing you more ramblings from my slightly chaotic brain!

So hello, my name’s Taylor, and I’m really looking forward to speaking to you soon.

I am so excited and happy for you & super glad our paths have crossed in the grow and glow group! Don’t feel bad for taking a break from blogging, sometimes life gets hectic and there’s nothing we can do about it. I’m also super glad to see you’re settling into your new job, you’re amazing! x

I always get sucked into the 99p deals, I'm a sucker for a deal! However, is it a deal when you have hundreds of books on your kindle already that you haven't read yet? 🤣 This month I picked up:

✨️ The Enigma of Room 622
✨️ Happy Place
✨️ The Wolf and the Woodsman
✨️ Notes on Heartbreak
✨️ Her Majesty's Royal Coven
✨️ Merideth Alone

Have you picked any of these up? Read any? Let me know! ☺️

Have I been telling absolutely everyone who would lend me an ear about how absolutely fantastic this new musical is? Yes, yes I have! I booked this back in November on a complete whim! Mostly because in the email I got, it was described as "part Mel Brooks, part Six, part Hamilton with a side order of One Man, Two Guvnors", and if that doesn't hook you I don't know what will! Other than the brief synopsis in the email, I went in blind, knowing nothing about the show, the music or the actors but man do I want to shout about them now.

Firstly, the Fortune Theatre felt like the perfect kind of venue for a show like this, surprisingly intimate and like you were actually involved in the action. From the very first song, I was hooked, I knew that I was in for a good one! The actors were all absolutely phenomenal, each one with comical timing that was absolutely on the money along with some fantastic pipes that were definitely easy on the ears. I laughed, I teared up, I didn't want it to end, everything from the music to the staging was absolute perfection if you ask me. @spitlip aren't a group I'd heard of before, but certainly won't be one I forget fast. I will absolutely without a single doubt be going to see this again before it closes, and only pray that it actually sticks around. Potentially the best new musical I've seen in a very, very long time! Go get your tickets now, old chap! ✌️
