So it’s been a while hasn’t it? Like a good month or so? Well, I guess life happened. Uni had me bogged down for a while, I started a new job which took up most of my free time. And then I got sick. Like ended up in hospital sick. So I guess this is a little health update as well as an update on what’s going to be going on here.
So about three weeks back I was getting the sharp pain in my chest so I went to the doctors, who took my heart rate and it was around 160 bpm. In case you didn’t know, the average for an adult is between 66-80. While I was at the doctors they decided to do an ECG, which showed that it wasn’t abnormal, just fast. So I got sent to A&E, where they monitored me for a while and gave me some medication which helped slow my heart a bit. I was there transferred to another hospital where, if I’m being honest, I don’t think I was treated amazingly. I was told I had something called paracarditis, which is inflammation around the heart and I was kept in overnight and then sent home the following afternoon, even though we didn’t really know why it had happened, with no medication and a heart rate of around 110bpm. I was told to just spend the week resting and then I should feel better. A week later and I seemed to have more pain, I felt a lot more unwell and my heart rate had been steadily increasing to 136bpm. So I went back to the doctors and they told me that from the chest x-ray that the hospital had taken while I was in showed that I had slight pneumonia, although no one from the hospital had told me this. The doctor explained to me that this could be the cause for the paracarditis and the reason why I was feeling unwell and not getting better. So I’ve been on some really strong medication this week and although I still don’t feel 100% better, I do feel like I’m getting there. I’m back at the doctors again on Monday so fingers crossed that they’ll see the improvement and say that I’m definitely on the mend.
So that’s the reason I haven’t been active at all, I don’t even think I’ve looked at twitter in a good few weeks either. I’m hoping that once I’m fighting fit again that I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things again like I had before. So I guess I’m just asking that you stick around for just a little bit longer until I get back on my feet again. I’m hoping to put out a lot more book as well as film reviews and all of my usual stuff too. Hopefully you’ll be hearing from me a lot sooner next time! Let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to since I’ve been gone and more importantly, if I’ve missed out on anything major in the blogging world.
SourcedBox – Feburary 2017.

I’ve been a fan of SourcedBox’s for a long time but I have to say that this month was definitely not the best. While there were definitely some things that I really enjoyed, there just seemed to be more things that I didn’t. I used to be so impressed with everything that I got in these boxes, and although I feel like we get more in the boxes now than we did at the start, I just don’t think they’re as nice. But I’m going to persevere and hope that next months is better.

The first thing from this box that I tried were the Inspiral Salted Caramel Coconut Pecks. Now I’m not a big fan of coconut, so whenever I get something with coconut in or coconut flavoured I’m always a little bit dubious. These are incredibly sweet and my first thought was ‘thank god all I can taste is salted caramel’ because they have a really good salted caramel flavour to them but after a few second all I could taste was coconut. For someone who doesn’t mind coconut or overly sweet things I can imagine these would be an ideal snack but I don’t think they’re for me. My first thought when I opened the bag of Yushoi Lightly Salted Snapea Rice Sticks was that they looked quite similar to the ready salted Chipsticks, a packet of crisps I miss since they aren’t gluten free, and they almost taste the same too. Every now and again I got a very subtle pea taste but if I didn’t think about it too much, they were actually very enjoyable. I’m hoping some of their other flavours are gluten free so I can try those too!

My favourite items in a SourcedBox are the snack bars. I’m always on the hunt for new ones because they are so easy to just chuck in my bag for when I’m out and about. I was quite intrigued by the 100% Natural Organic Raw Chocolate Brownie with Himalayan Rose Salt, mostly because of the word ‘brownie’. I am a complete sucker for a good brownie and I wont lie, this took me completely surprised! It definitely had some sort of brownie quality about it and I would happily buy more of these to chuck in my bag. About halfway through I did start to find it a little bit too rich but that just meant that I could save half for later which is no bad thing!! I was really surprised by the LoveRaw Almond and Coconut Organic bar and the reason I really enjoyed this was definitely down the cinnamon powder. Without the cinnamon I don’t think I would have enjoyed this quite so much because of the coconut but I could honestly barely taste it. I also loved how soft this was because I often find with snack bars like this are a bit too dense for my liking but this was absolutely lush! My favourite item was probably the Conscious Organic Raw with Wild Cranberries, I’m usually not a lover of dark chocolate but the cranberries make it much more enjoyable. I can’t wait to get some of the other flavours so I can try them.

When I tried the NoNo Superfood Truffles, I found that the beetroot was just too strong and I really can’t stand the taste of it. If the Raspberry had been a bit stronger it may have been a different story. Also I bit into it expecting it to be much softer than it actually was, I’m not a fan of hard chocolate on the best of days, so biting into a hard truffle was not enjoyable. I unfortunately couldn’t try the Wyldsson Elite Nutrition Mango Mix but my mum said that it was nice and made a really good snack when she was on the go. I was really surprised by the Beloved Zesty Orange Date Fruit Hearts because I don’t particularly like the taste of dates, but the orange in these make them taste super nice! They are a little bit denser than I would expect but that doesn’t make them any less tasty. There were two drinks in the box this month but one of them I left in my mums fridge where I’d put it to chill. But I did however get to try The London Tea Company Raspberry Inferno and it was really good. I’m a big fan of herbal teas in general but sometimes fruit teas can be a little bit hit or miss but this was really good. I’m definitely going to be trying some off the other ones.
Skincare Routine.

I don’t by any mean profess to really know that much about skincare, everything I’ve learnt has come from YouTubers and Bloggers. Also, I’m lazy, so I can rarely be bothered to spend anything longer than a few minutes doing anything skincare related. But recently I’ve had some terrible breakouts and my skin has been a lot tighter and drier than usual so I thought I should probably try and do something to fix it! So I’ve been trying to really think of what I’ve been putting on my skin and trying to make sure I have a bit more of a solid routine.

Something that is a stupidly simply step that I just was too lazy to ever include in whatever little routine I had was using a Micellar water. I usually use this as a really quick way to get rid of any dirt on my face and give my skin a hit of hydration. I’ve tried a fair few but my favourite is by far the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, it’s really gentle on my skin and has a lovely fresh scent to it. Sometimes when I’m feeling super lazy I’ll find myself reaching for the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. I definitely don’t feel like my skin feels as clean as it could after using these, but when I’ve had a ridiculously busy day this is the best I can do. I do try not to use them too much though because I find that using face wipes can sometimes dry my face out a little bit. Something that I’ve loved for the last few years and have made a staple in my skincare routine is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. I find this soothes my skin, stops it getting dry and gets rid of any redness I may have. I’ve also found that it’s helped keep my breakouts at bay, at least for now. The best thing is that it literally takes all of five minutes, so even on days where I’d rather just get into bed, I know this is something that will take hardly any time and will leave my skin feeling nourished, clean and soft.
If I am having a bit of a bad breakout phase, I tend to reach for the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap. I’ll use it when I first get into the shower because I feel it gives a deep clean and by doing it in the shower before I wash my hair means that I can easily add this step in as and when I feel like I need it. The only thing that I would say about this is that I’m not particularly fond of the smell, theres just something about it that I don’t like and I find that sometimes the smell lingers. When I’m finished with this tube, I’m going to invest in the actual soap bar and see if I like that any better. Another step that I add into my routine if I’m having a bit of a breakout is my Witch Blemish Skin. I found its great for if I have a really angry spot that decides to pop up, I prefer to use this in the evening because it does tend to really dry my skin out, so I’ll use it in the evening and by the time I wake up it wont look quite so red and angry, theres even been some instances where I’ve caught it early enough that the spot disappears entirely. Witchcraft (that was bad, but I couldn’t resist).
I’ve tried hundreds of moisturisers, it’s a huge downfall of mine that as soon as I see a new moisturiser hit the shelves I feel the need to get my hands on it. The issue that I find is that I never feel like they keep my skin moisturised for long enough or that it just doesn’t do anything for my skin. However, when I suffered from an abscess on the side of my face I had to stop putting any products on my skin that might cause it to flare up and I was recommended E45 Cream as a moisturiser. I haven’t stopped using it since. It’s quite a thick heavy duty cream but it really sinks into the skin and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or tingling like some of the ones I’d tried before. There’s no real smell to it which I quite like because it means I don’t end up smelling the product for the whole day, something I find happens with certain products. I’ve definitely been converted to the E45 brand!
Something I could never get my head around was a day time as well as a night time cream, not only because I was too lazy but because I was never really sure what I was looking for. But I recently started using the Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate for Night in the evenings after I use the E45 cream and I really think it’s starting to make a difference. My skin is no longer dry, red patches are gone and when I wake up in the morning my skin looks brighter and plumper. This oil doesn’t have the best of smells but it could certainly be worse, I do like the fact there is a hint of lavender which is definitely calming before falling asleep. I’ve also never been one to do face masks, I’ve never really seen the appeal of them but after hearing everybody rave about the Garnier Skinactive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask I just had to try it. It leaves my skin feeling soft and looking a bit brighter as well as giving it a big hit of moisture which is definitely needed, especially during the colder months, but to be honest I can see me using this year round and the fact it’s only £1 is amazing.
So there you have it my incredibly basic skincare routine. I have to say, since I’ve taken the time to care for skin I have noticed a huge change and I wish I’d done it sooner. I’m sure there are plenty of other things that I’ll end up adding and taking out of the routine, but as it stands, I like that this is a relatively quick and simple routine that I don’t struggle to follow. Let me know down below what your holy grail skincare products are!
Favourite Lip Products.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense – 05 Plushest Punch

I’ve been a fan of the Clinique Chubby Stick’s since they first came out. I’m a lazy person so I love a product that I can apply without a mirror and with just one quick swipe. Because it’s a lip balm it means that it’s super moisturizing but it packs a lot of colour. The thing that surprised me the most about this product was that it lasts such a long time. I was dubious to begin with that because it’s more of a lip balm that after a while it would just fade or rub off, but I was pleasantly surprised with how long it was before I had to reapply. I often use this if I need to run into uni and want it to look like I’ve made an effort.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil – Tortola

I got this in a Cohorted box last summer and I still stand by the fact it’s one of the best product I’ve ever got in a beauty box. I use this whenever Im going out for drinks or a meal and want to look slightly more put together or if I’m just going to pop out and want to look a bit nicer. I was worried that this would really dry my lips out because I have quite dry lips anyway but it surprises me every time. It glides on so smoothly and I don’t feel like I have to use a lip liner underneath it. I love the colour – I didn’t really think the nude/brown look would suit my pale complexion but I really do love it. It’s definitely the lip product I reach for the most.

L’oreal Paris Color Riche – JLo’s Nude

This was probably one of the first lipstick I brought and actually used regularly. Its very pretty and quite flattering. It’s definitely on the paler side of a nude which I quite like because it gives that ‘my lips but better’ look. The only downside to this is that I find it doesn’t last a great length of time, especially when up against food or a hot drink. It also has an odd smell, I know it doesn’t phase a lot of people and sometimes I don’t even notice it but there have been a fair few occasions where I’ve had to take it off because it’s all I can smell!
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution – Opium Noir

This is a very new purchase and I’ve only actually worn it once, but I can tell it’s going to be a new favourite. Being my first Charlotte Tilbury lipstick I wasn’t really sure what to expect but boy was I impressed. First of all the colour is fantastic, definitely what I would call a ‘Taylor Colour’, I love the dark berry shades and am trying to get the confidence to wear them more this year. And it smells absolutely divine, there’s just something about a product smelling nice that makes me feel happy! Also the staying power of this lipstick is intense, I was so surprised at the end of a night out when it was still pretty much intact! The packaging alone is enough to make anyone swoon, but the lipstick itself makes me want to buy every shade in the range.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss – 107

Before my venture into Charlotte Tilbury, this was my trusted go-to berry shade. And sometimes it still it. While very close to the above shade, I find it isn’t quite so dark. So this would definitely be my berry shade for during the day whereas I think the ‘Opium Noir’ will be a shade I reach for during the evening. The only downside I find with this is that the staying power isn’t quite so long and it’s a little bit more drying on the lips, but for a drugstore brand this is definitely amazing and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced berry shade.

Sunday Chats – 12/02/17.
Hello lovelies, I’ve been meaning to do a post like this for a while but I just kept putting it off. But I’ve finally sat down while the repeat of yesterdays The Voice is on and a half eaten bag of giant buttons (they will no doubt all be gone by the end of this post) and I’m going to delve in with what I’ve been up to this week.
What I’ve Been Doing…
This week has felt like a very long week despite not doing much. I’ve been into uni and had a few different meetings to go to. I also had a blood test at the beginning of a week, which was a struggle as per usual. I have absolutely no problems with needles or having my blood taken, but it always ends up taking twice as long. I have very small, deep set veins which means it can be a real struggle to get any blood at all from me. It also means they have to try numerous times in multiple places which means I come out with loads of bruises, not a good look! I also popped home this weekend because I had a hospital appointment with my GI consultant. I’m probably in the very rare percentage of people who enjoy going to hospital appointments and Friday’s was great! I got some good news and everything in regards to my colitis is starting to calm down and I’m getting it a little bit more under control which is fab. I’ve got an appointment at the end of next month (which I’m looking forward to as well…) just to see how everything’s going and then I’m also waiting for a date for my next colonoscopy which I most certainly am not looking forward to!!
What I’ve Been Reading…
I haven’t been reading an awful lot this week, which makes me sad, maybe I’ll sit down with a book and a cuppa when I’ve finished writing this. Most of my reading this week has been on the topic of Vogue’s magazine publication in the 1920’s for the coursework I had to hand in on Friday. As much as it’s not a boring subject by any means, I can think of a thousand different things I’d rather have spent my time reading. I did manage to tick off Lumberjanes from my Feburary TBR list, you can see what else is on my list in my What I’m Reading post. I found I picked this up when I was in bed and I’d read a chapter before I went to sleep, I’ll talk about it in my Feburary round up at the end of the month. I’ve also been checking in with Bloglovin’ every morning and I thought I’d link some of my favourite reads from the last week.
- Jasmine Talks Beauty: How I Plan my Blog Content – I really like reading posts on how people come up with their blog content because I hope it will inspire me to actually become more organised and plan more.
- EmTalks: A Serious Heart To Heart. Life At The Moment – I’ve followed Em’s blog since I first started blogging and I think she is so strong for putting a post like this out there and I think what she’s doing is fantastic.
- LexiLife: Recent Superdrug Beauty Picks – I’m nosey and I love finding out what beauty and skincare bits people have picked up so I know what to look out for.
- Poppy Deyes: Snippets Of Our Kitchen – Like I say, I’m nosey and I love seeing different people’s interiors but it gives me such house envy!
What I’ve Been Listening To…
Whenever I have coursework to do I tend to have my musicals playlist on repeat. This week I found myself listening to Annie, The Last 5 Years, La La Land and She Loves Me the most. Train’s new album also got released so I’ve been listening to that too, while it isn’t my favourite album from them, it still easy listening and I’ve had it on in the background while I’ve cleaned. One of my absolute favourite bands, Rascal Flatts, released their newest single ‘Yours If You Want It’ a few weeks ago, and I’ve pretty much listened to it every day this week. I cannot wait for their new album!
What I’ve Been Watching…
Lots of my favourite TV shows have started again recently but I’ve been enjoying Greys Anatomy and Scandal most this week. Supernatural was also very amusing this week, I love it when they have an episode full of comedy, albeit usually at Dean’s expense. Me and my housemate watched The Secret Life of a 5 Year Old which we watch religiously when it’s on because it has us both in stitches! I’ve also made it my mission to get up to date with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (which is a guilty pleasure of mine) and I managed to watch a season and a half this week while I’ve been doing my coursework!
I hope you’ve all had a great week, let me know in the comments what you got up to and what the highlight of the week was for you!
What I'm Reading – February.

I have a love-hate relationship with reading now. Growing up I always had my head in a book. You’d be hard pressed to get me to have an actual conversation with you because I just enjoyed being stuck in a book too much. This hasn’t actually changed, the thought of sitting down with a huge mug of tea and a good book fills me with so much happiness, I’ve just yet to do it. The reason for this, I think, is university. I find very few people who actually enjoy doing the recommended reading for their course. No matter how much you enjoy reading, having to read something you aren’t allowed to pick or something you don’t really enjoy can be a real drag. But I’m determined for that to change this year, and I’m going to try and rediscover my love for reading again! Let me know if you have any good book recommendations that you think would help me get back into reading!

Room – Emma Donoghue

I actually started reading this book a few summers ago and made it about halfway through before work got too hectic so I put it down and never picked it up again. But I really enjoyed what I did read and I’ve been putting off seeing the film until I’ve finished the book so I’d say it’s about damn time I picked it back up again. Although I’m definitely going to have to start from the beginning because I have a habit of not marking my place in books…
When We Collided – Emery Lord

I borrowed this book from a good friend of mine way before Christmas and I just haven’t got around to it yet. Considering all the really great things I’ve heard about it I need to stop putting it off and just read it already!!
Lumberjanes

Over the last year I’ve really got into graphic novels and Lumberjanes was one of the first ones I picked up thanks to a really lovely Waterstones assistant. The problem I seem to have is that I’ll pick up the first one in a series and then forget to buy any of the other ones because I’ll find a new series to give a go. However this is a series I always try and pick up when I see it. This is the third one and I cannot wait to start reading and find out what sort of a pickle the Lumberjanes have got themselves into now.
You Deserve a Drink – Mamrie Hart
American Psycho – Bret Easton Ellis

I have been watching Mamrie Hart since god knows when and this has been on my list of books to read for months, and I was lucky enough to get given this at Christmas. This means I now have no reason not to read this now! American Psycho was a present to myself and I won’t lie the thing that drew me to it was the cover. I love the simplicity of it and I can’t wait to really pick it up and get stuck in.
January Favourites.
.I always love January. I love the feeling of a fresh start and there’s nothing like a new year to get you motivated. I don’t tend to do the whole ‘new year, new me’ situation, but I do think it’s a great time to get motivated to make changes in your life that will make it better. So last month I tried to get back into yoga and really enjoy it after falling slightly out of love with it at the end of last year. I also made the decision to try and really get organised after spending the end of last year not really knowing if I was coming of going. I can successfully say that I have managed to do both of those things and I feel so much better because of it. What were you favourite things about last month? Let me know in the comments down below or tell me how you used the start of new year to motivate you!
Blogosphere Magazine – Issue 11

This is something I’ve been meaning to pick up since it launched but I’m a terrible person who just kept putting it off. I was lucky to get given some money over Christmas so I finally went ahead and ordered it. Now, as much as I do adore Zoe, I’m very sad that I missed Victoria from InTheFrow’s issue. I’m gutted that I didn’t do this earlier because this is a fantastic magazine that celebrates everyone in the blogging community! If you haven’t already, you can buy a years membership for just £25 here.
Bread Street Kitchen Cookbook

I have every single one of Gordon Ramsay’s cookbooks so you can imagine my excitement when he announced his new one in collaboration with his restaurant Bread Street Kitchen. I treated myself to it as a late Christmas present when I saw that it was offer on Amazon and I love it. The photography in it is stunning and I simply can’t wait to try out some of the recipes!
The Little Book of Hygge – Meik Wiking

I had heard lots of people throw the word ‘hygge’ around at the end of last year and as far as I could tell it was just about candles and fluffy socks. And it is, but it’s also about so much more. Hygge is all about appreciating the small things in life that make you feel happier and more content. For me, that’s sitting with my friends, drinking tea and watching crappy tv. I must admit, I do light candles and wear fluffy socks which make it so much more cosy. This book is fantastic because it really explains in depth what hygge actually is and consists of, and explains where it comes from and why its so popular. I love the little graphics they have throughout and the fact that it includes recipes for you to try.
Colgate Proclinical 250+ Electric Toothbrush

I think the fact that I’m excited about a toothbrush shows, not only do I lead a sad little life but also that I am actually becoming an adult. I’ve needed to buy a new electric toothbrush for a while but I don’t really like the ones with circular heads, I much prefer them with rectangle ones. I looked everywhere after christmas hoping to find one in the sale but I had no luck. But during a last minute stop at Sainsbury’s before the trip back to uni I spotted this beauty. I love the fact that its slim and small as opposed to the heavy, bulky thing I had before. I’ve linked it here just in case anyone else gets excited by the prospect of a new toothbrush and wants to give it a look.
Si Eau De Toilette – Giorgio Armani

Okay, disclaimer time – I am absolutely terrible at describing scents! Especially perfumes, I just don’t take a lot of time to really notice them. Honestly, I just decide whether I like it or not and that’s that. But every christmas my step-mum likes to buy me a new fragrance to try and she’s yet to put a foot wrong. I have never had such a perfume that I would describe as being this high end. And I adore it! It’s quite subtle which I love because I am not a huge fan of perfumes that are too bold or over the top. There’s a slight hint of fruitiness to it, which isn’t something I normally go for because I tend to prefer things that, I suppose, are classed as a bit more of a musk. Plus I absolutely adore the packaging!! Like I say, I’m terrible at describing scents so I thought I’d just tell you what it says on their website!
Top Notes: Blackcurrant Sorbet, Mandarin & Pear
Heart Notes: Rose De Mai Essence & Freesia
Base Notes: Musk, Vanilla & Patchouli
The Body Shop Frosted Berries Lip Balm

I’m a big fan of The Body Shop lip balms, and I’m also a big fan of their christmas range. This was given to me by one of my good friends when I was having a rough day which just makes it even more special. First off, I love the smell. It’s quite sweet but not sickly, I wish I’d got some more bits from this range. It also gives the lips a slight red tint which is lovely because I tend to have quite pale lips so it’s lovely to have something that isn’t at all sticky but very soft on the lips that adds a hint of colour.
La La Land

I absolutely adore musicals! Can’t get enough of them, I’d happily watch them everyday. Now this movie has either been loved or hated by people but I thought it was amazing! Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are a match made in heaven and everything they touch turns to gold so as a duo they are fantastic. The music is phenomenal and I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on repeat since I saw the film at the beginning of the month. It honestly was everything I wanted it to be and then some! Please please don’t judge this by what everyone else has been saying, if it interests you at all go and see it, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!!
UniSlam 2017

So for those of you who don’t know, UniSlam is an event where teams from universities all over the country come and perform in a spoken word poetry slam. Spoken word is something that I really enjoy watching as well as performing. I entered with my university team last year as well as this year. It was a shame that we didn’t manage to progress pass the prelim round but it was an absolutely fantastic day that was full of some phenomenal poetry!!
Christmas Films To Get You In The Christmas Mood.
In case you didn’t already know, I absolutely adore Christmas. As in start planning in September and decorations up mid-November adore Christmas. Christmas is a very special time in our household and is easily my favourite part of the year. One of the thing I love about Christmas is the films. There’s always an abundance on TV and, for me, when you spend a sunday night scrolling through the TV guide and see nothing but films, that’s when you know Christmas is on its way. So I thought I’d give you all a little run down of my favourite films, because I love reading posts like these.
The Grinch

Quite possibly my favourite Christmas film of all time! Honest, I can follow it word for word and end up chuckling every single time I watch it. I won’t lie, I watched it at the beginning of September this year because I just couldn’t wait. I think this film is a bit like marmite for people, but if you haven’t watched it, please do this year. You’ll find yourself singing along to the songs for weeks after.
The Polar Express

This is another film I watched during September, because I wanted to watch a Christmas film but the family didn’t want something that was ‘overly Christmas’. This was the clear winner. I really enjoy the animation and the music, I mean there’s a song about hot chocolate and if that doesn’t entice you, I don’t know what will. The core message of this film is all about believing in the spirit of christmas, no matter how old you are.
Holiday Inn

I’m a huge fan of most things Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire are in. This is just another lovely film with an amazing soundtrack that I think often gets forgotten about because of how old it is, but it is on my to-watch list every year. If you’re a fan of old films, fantastic soundtracks or just an easy watch, this is definitely the way forward.
The Nightmare Before Christmas

Yes, this is most definitely a christmas film. If you’ve never seen this film, (who are you and where have you been living?) I’d recommend watching it just for the animation alone. It’s fantastic! The music is obviously amazing and the story is heart warming. If you want a film that isn’t as conventional as some of the others on this list, this is 100% top choice.
Elf

Everyone knows this film, and most of those people, I imagine like me, have a love-hate relationship with it. I find it’s been far too overplayed now, so I do get to the stage where I just get sick of it. That being said, it does make me chuckle the first few times and it’s another film that, if you can get past the annoying parts, has a very lovely message to it.
The Holiday

This is by far my favourite Christmas rom-com. I feel like most people either like this or Love Actually. For me The Holiday wins every time. I love the whole cast, I love the idea of it and the story is just so simple and sweet. It’s definitely a film that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside when you watch it.
Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas

This is quite a special film to me. I watch it every Christmas Eve without fail, it’s very much a tradition in our home. I’m a huge fan of disney and each little story has such a lovely message. The last few years we haven’t sat down as a family to watch it like we have in previous years, my mum’s usually too busy with last minute Christmas wrapping and my brothers at the age where he doesn’t really care about it. But I think this is a little tradition I’ll carry on for many years and will probably do with my own children.
So there you have it! I’ll be watching each of these films at least 10 times before Christmas Eve and I really recommend you do too. Let me know down below if you’ve seen any of these or tell me you’re favourite Christmas Films that you think I should watch.
Favourite Musical Films – Blogvember 2016.
A few weeks ago I did a post on my favourite musical soundtracks and I enjoyed writing it so much that I thought I’d write up a post on my favourite musical films. There’s a mixture of films in this list and I love them all! There is honestly something for everyone on this list and I hope if you haven’t seen them before that you give them a go.
Rent

This featured on my last musicals post and it’s an oldie but a goodie! It tells the story of seven friends in New York and their struggles in life, from things like not being about to pay their rent, to much more serious issues like having to live with AID’s. The films shows a year in the life of these friends, including the highs and lows. It’s so touching and made me cry the first time I watched it. This movie also features some famous faces you might recognise, including Jesse L Martin, Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp. If you need to watch something touching or something that will really make you take stock of all the good in your life, this is definitely the one for you.
Les Miserables 25th Anniversary

Okay, I’m going to be frank with you, I’m still yet to watch the newest film adaptation. I know I know, I’m very much behind the time. But I just adore this musical so much that I was worried the film might ruin that for me. I’ve made a promise to myself to try and watch it before the end of the year. Anyway, I’ve seen this on stage and absolutely loved it and when I heard that the 25th Anniversary performance was going to be released on DVD, I just needed it in my life. With stars like Matt Lucas, Nick Jonas and Lea Salonga, it was always going to be a hit.
The Last 5 years

Now, this stars Jeremy Jordan, a man who I adore so I knew that I was going to love this but I just didn’t realise quite how much. It also features Anna Kendrick as the only other character in this film. The story follows a couple whose relationship comes to an end, but it’s told almost entirely in song. We also get told the story from two different points; from Kathy’s point of view the story is told in reverse but from Jamie’s we see it progress from the start. They take it turn singing songs, jumping backwards and forwards in time until eventually the relationship ends. The music throughout is amazing, the acting is great and I love the way the story is told.
Into the woods

This is another film made up almost entirely of songs. This is packing to the brim with big names; Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp just to name a few. We follow five different story that all interlink, four of which are based on the Grimm Brothers fairytales; Rapunzel, Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. We follow the Baker and his wife go on a quest for the Witch, so that they may have a child. Like I say, there’s barely any talking in this film, but I still love it. The scenery is stunning and there was many a moment where I found myself chuckling.
Rocky Horror Show

Another oldie! This is something I just watched on a whim during my first year of university and I loved it. It’s weird and wacky and at times a little uncomfortable. But it’s also filled with amazing songs and amusing choreography. It’s definitely a cult classic and if you haven’t seen it before, you definitely need to!
If you have any other favourite musical films that you think I should try, let me know in the comments in the comments. I’m off to sing about running ‘into the woods’!
What To Do In A Reading Slump – Blogvember 2016.

I absolutely love reading. I like to lie to myself and say I don’t have enough time to nowadays, which to an extent is true, but I’m also lazy. And when I find myself getting lazy with reading I usually hit a bit of a slump. No book can hold my attention and it becomes more of a chore to sit down and read. This is something that has happened to me many times before, and I promise it will eventually pass. So I thought I’d give you some of my tips that I find help get me out of a reading slump.
Don’t force it

The absolutely worst thing I find you can do is to force it. There is nothing worse than reading a book you do not enjoy. Anybody who studied English at school who adores books, knows the pain of having to force read a book, especially one you don’t particularly enjoy.
Watch booktubers

I particularly enjoy watching Booktubers who do hauls, because it gets me excited for new books that are coming out. Seeing someone else get super excited about books helps get me excited to read again. However, I always have to fight off the urge to buy new books after watching book hauls, so as much as this is a great way to get out of a reading slump, my bank account does not always agree.
Reevaluate your TBR

Sometimes seeing the pile of books you’ve got to read is very daunting. I tend to just add more and more books to the ever growing list of things I want to read, which means books that I was once very excited about fall to the end of the list and I forget about them. I suggest throwing away your TBR pile and starting again. I like to start with a completely clean slate and I’ll pick out just a few books that I know I can’t wait to read. That way when I do decide to sit down with a book, I’m not spending hours trying to pick one from a pile thats bigger than me.
Read books reviews

This is very similar to the Booktuber point. I love reading book reviews and finding out what someone else thought of a book I’m thinking of reading. Again, it gets me excited about it and it makes me look forward to picking it up.
Read something else

And by this, I literally mean ANYTHING else. A magazine, a newspaper, something online, poetry, even cooking instructions. Just don’t stop reading. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what you’re reading as long as you are in fact reading. I usually turn to magazines because they are quick to read and you can pick them up and put them down throughout the day. I tend to find that if I continue to read, eventually I will pick a book back up, usually because I have nothing else to read.
So those are my tips for getting out of a reading slump and will hopefully help you pick a book back up. If you have any other tips, let me know in the comments down below, I’d love to hear them!
