Kirstys Ready Meals.

Now, everyone has nights where they get in from a long or tiring day and you can think of nothing worse than spending longer than a few minutes in the kitchen preparing dinner. This isn’t something that happens to me often, but it does happen and when it does I like to be prepared. This usually comes in the form of a ready meal, or at the very least a meal that requires little to no effort to put together. However, I think it’s hard to find a good gluten-free ready meal. So when I saw these Kirsty’s meals on offer in Sainsburys, I thought I’d give them a try out.

To start, I tried the classic beef lasagne, of which I am a huge fan. Normally what I do is make a massive portion from scratch and then freeze the rest so that when I know I won’t have time in the evenings to cook, it’s already all done for me. However, I haven’t had the time of energy to do this recently, so I thought this would be the next best thing! I cooked this in the microwave because I was lazy and super hungry, so into the microwave it went while I made myself a cuppa and got an episode of The Bachelorette ready. When I took it out, the first thing I noticed was the top seemed to be very liquidy. Now, I’m all for a creamy sauce, but this was just a bit odd. I don’t think you can really see it in the pictures above, but the whole right hand side seem to just be liquid. So I decided to put it back into the microwave in the hopes that the sauce might thicken a little bit, which it did but only the tiniest bit. You can see in the pictures below, that the sauce was really quite thin.

Like I said, I like a creamy sauce, but it was just a bit too thin for my liking. The biggest thing that put me off though was how bland it tasted. Honestly, you could barely taste there was any meat between the pasta layers, and the meat I did taste, didn’t really taste of anything. Also, the layers were so so thin, even with the little bit of meat that was left in the pot when I took the lasagne out, I would hardly call them layers. Honestly, this was a definite disappointment and I won’t be picking it up again.

The next meal I decided to try was the cottage pie with sweet potato mash. Now I love cottage pie and I also love sweet potatoes so I thought this was going to be a slam dunk. The first thing I noticed when I took this out of the microwave was the smell. It smelt really good, and after the disaster I had with the lasagna, this was a great sign. As you can see it didn’t hold up its shape particularly well, but then when do ready meals ever do that? I had a mouthful of the mince on its own first, and I was pleasantly surprised. It had flavour and definitely wasn’t as bad as the lasagne. However, when I tried the mash, the let down’s began again. it was like mush. Actual mush. I thought that maybe with the meat it wouldn’t taste too bad, but the mush took away whatever little flavour there was and the more I ate the more I found that the meat to mash ratio was way off. Having more mash that meat normally doesn’t bother me in the slightest, (I’m a huge mash fiend) but at least make the mash taste good! While definitely not as much of a let down as the lasagne, it certainly wasn’t great.

This was probably the best meal of the three, although it still wasn’t great. The mash was okay but not great and to be honest I thought they were a little stingy with the portion size. (Then again that may just be because I always have a massive pile of mash!) The beef was quite tender which was really nice because I find beef in ready meals can be really tough sometimes, however there wasn’t a great amount of flavour. The best thing about it was the gravy, and mixed with the mash made it much more enjoyable. It’s very basic and didn’t have a lot of flavour (which seems to be a recurring theme here), but I was happy that the beef was soft and that the mash didn’t just taste like mush.
Would I buy these meals again? Short answer: no. While it was great to see gluten-free specific ready meals on the supermarket shelve, I just wasn’t very impressed and to be honest would have preferred to spend the extra time making something home-made!

TV Shows I'm Looking Forward To Watching.

It’s always around this time of year that all my favourite TV shows start ending. Scandal, Supernatural, Greys Anatomy, the list goes on. But it also means that new shows will be starting soon. I always like to have a watch of the trailers to see if theres anything that looks like it’s worth keeping an eye out for; and I have to say, this year there’s a fair few.

Will & Grace

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS! This is going to be epic, I just know it! Will & Grace ran from 1998 – 2006 and boy was it a ride. Following Will, a gay lawyer and Grace, a straight interior designer, we saw them navigate through relationships, breakups, children and family feuds. I honestly can’t wait to see what they’ve been up to. If the short produced before the US elections is anything to go by, it’ll be ‘as if we never said goodbye’.

The Resident

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m all about the medical dramas. I honestly just cannot get enough of them and this looks to be right up my street. Following a young intern and a rough around the edges resident who show’s the good and the bad in day to day medicine. Drama and hot doctors, what more could you want?!

Deception

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEKCP4slr28
Okay, this definitely gives me a Castle vibe, but it intrigues me. We see Cameron Black, a world famous illusionist whose career takes a turn when his secrets are revealed. He’s looking for the people who exposed him, finds himself in the middle of an FBI investigation, and thinks they could both help each other. I love magic, so I think the dynamic of this could be really interesting, or it could be a huge flop, I can’t wait to find out.

Dynasty

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxacuu_vg8Y
I can tell right off the bat that I will know whether I’m going to get into this before the end of the first episode. It has that Gossip Girl vibe, but there’s going to need to be a little bit more to it to keep me involved. Hopefully, this hasn’t been one of the trailers that has all the best parts in or that gives away the whole story before you’ve even watched the show. Fingers crossed.

The Good Doctor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYlZDTru55g
What was that I was saying about medical dramas? I think this is going to be so interesting because it follows a doctor who has savant syndrome. This is a really interesting take on the normal medical dramas, and I’m hoping that it will be as good as the trailer looks.

For The People

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGhtrRX_NSg
Shonda Rhimes, can she do it again? Probably. This looks like a cross between How To Get Away With Murder and The Good Wife. Both of which I got bored half way through and stopped watching. However, you can’t say no to Shonda, so I’m definitely going to give this a go. It looks like it focus’ more of the lawyer side of things than personal relationships, however, with Shonda’s track record, I don’t think that will last long.

Ten Days in the Valley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2203m9WpnU
This looks a little bit creepy and a lot good. A television producers daughter gets kidnapped in the middle of the night and we follow her as she tries to continue working as well as deal with the investigation, however it’s heavily implied that things may take a surprising turn so I can’t wait to watch this!!

Favourite 90's TV shows

You must have heard the fantastic news that Will & Grace is coming back for a one off season by now! I squealed a little when I heard, Will & Grace is one of my favourite shows of all times! Saying that though, I love most shows that were made around that time. I think there’s a spark to them, that lots of series’ these days maybe don’t have for me. Whether its the script writing, the stories, the characters, I couldn’t tell you what I love so much about them, but there is honestly nothing better than sticking one of these shows on in the background while I do some work with a brew.

Will & Grace

popsugar

This is such an easy viewing kinda show. I’ll happily have it playing in the background all day while doing work. I love absolutely everything about it, the characters, the topics it tackles, Will’s apartment, the comedy. At its core it’s just a show about two friends who’ve been friends for years and how they cope in their day to day lives, including promotions, love, and breakups. And they tackle every subject with just the right amount of humour while making its points abundantly clear.

Friends

gifamerica

Obviously, everyone loves friends, don’t they?! I can sit and watch this for hours, I’ve seen every episode far too many times and I can quote most of it, yet it never fails to make me laugh every single time. I’m quite happy there hasn’t been a revival because I’m not sure if it would be able to do the show justice. It was comical yet heart wrenching sometimes, we grew with these characters and that was amazing. In my opinion, it ended exactly when it needed to and I’d much rather relive the old episodes than have new ones.

Frasier

imgur

This is an odd one I think, one of those ones that you don’t know about unless you know it. If you’re up early enough you might catch an episode of it on Channel 4, and thats where I normally get my fix. Not a series I’ve watched religiously, or in fact all of, but will happily stick on when it’s on because I know it’ll give me a chuckle. While very subtle in the topics it deals with, if you squint a bit, you’ll see there are lessons to be learned from Dr Crane.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

popsugar

Another one that I’m convinced everyone loves. I actually remember watching this with my dad when I was younger. I love Will Smith and this was just filled with hilarity from start to end. I really don’t think they make TV like this anymore. If you’re ever in need of a laugh, stick on any episode of this and I guarantee within minutes you’ll be in fits of laughter.

TV Series I've Been Addicted To Recently.

The Originals

justjaredjr

This is a show that I’ve been watching on and off since it first started in 2013. Originally it started as a spin off of The Vampire Diaries, but I’d argue that it absolutely can stand on its own. It follows a family of vampires, who just happen to be the very first vampires ever, hence being called an ‘original’. We follow their quest to take back the city of New Orleans, a city that was once their own that they were run out of. We’re very quickly introduced to the witches of the quarter, as well as werewolves out in the bayou. If you’re looking for a show that is drama filled, featuring all sorts of supernatural beings but at the very core of it, features a family that stick together ‘always and forever’, this is definitely the one for you.

The Bachelorette

abc

Okay, I know. It just happened. I have no excuse. The Bachelor was a show that I had caught on TV a few times before and found it was something that was easy to have on in the background and had the drama and tension I secretly crave from a reality TV show. Then about a week ago, me and my house mate stumbled across this, and I won’t lie to you, we sat and watched at least 5 hours worth of the show in one sitting. It’s a very simple premise – a woman gets to spend her time with a large group of men, getting to know them and going on dates with them, and deciding who to give the rose to every episode. (If you get a rose, it means you can stick around for another week, if not, you’re going home buddy boy.) What’s the end result of this? She’ll eventually be left with 2 men, both of whom are hoping she’ll accept their proposal and end up married. Yep, thats right. You go on this show with the intention of getting engaged and married to essentially a stranger. It sounds odd (I won’t lie, it is) but it’s easy to binge watch on a Saturday while doing work, and you’d be surprised how quickly you get sucked into the drama and I guarantee you will end up with favourites.

Broadchurch

independent

I started watching this show because two of my friends kept pestering me to, so I caved. But I’m very glad I did. I managed to watch the first season in the space of two days. It’s a drama featuring David Tennant (who I love) and Olivia Coleman (who I also now love). The first season follows the investigation of a boys death, and we see how it affects the family and the small village they live in. I love the fact that every episode leaves you guessing and I honestly had no clue what the end result was going to be. It’s written brilliantly and the acting is absolutely amazing. I’ve never really been one for drama’s before, for no other reason than I forget to keep up with them, but this had me sitting down with a cuppa every Monday night ready to be captivated for a hour. Even if drama’s aren’t your thing, I promise you won’t be disappointed if you give this a go.

Masterchef Junior

renewcanceltv

I absolutely love the American version of Masterchef, if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour because it is miles better than the UK version. But what I love even more than that is the junior version. Don’t get me wrong, I get nervous every time I see the small humans running around with incredibly sharp knifes, but they are super talented so I presume that they know more about what to do with them than I do. These kids definitely know what they’re doing and it’s amazing watching them work. Also, Gordon Ramsay is a judge and I love everything he’s in plus he’s adorable with all the kids.

Designated Survivor

the crimson

This is something that I just happened to stumble upon and I practically got sucked in from the get-go. I caught up with all 18 episode in just over a day. I really enjoy shows like Scandal and House of Cards, and I was worried that because of my high expectations it would end up being a bit of a flop. I’m glad to say I was wrong. The show follows a man who, after an attack killing the President and most of the cabinet, ends up being thrown into running the white house. While it can be a little bit slow in places, there always seems to be some sort of twist or turn that surprises me. It also has Kiefer Sutherland which is always a bonus.

Supernatural

geeksnack

I’ve always adored Supernatural, however I tend to go through fits and farts with it. I’ll sit and marathon season after season and then I’ll forget about it for a while. But I have to say Season 12 has really brought back the love for it, so much so that I’m currently rewatching it from the very beginning. Not that the previous seasons were bad, because they weren’t in any way. But I’d found it got a little bit repetitive and I wasn’t being wowed anymore. But season 12 blew me away. Well, it dd up until the very last hour of the season, then they kind of lost me again, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when season 13 rolls around.

A Year With IBD.

On this day a year ago, I was officially diagnosed with IBD. IBD isn’t something I’m ashamed about and I talk openly about it, not only on my blog but in general too. If you’re not sure what IBD is, I’ve done a few posts about it before such as What is IBD? and How Being Diagnosed With a Chronic Illness Changed Who I Am.
Time has a funny way of running away from you and when you spend each day just trying to make it to bed time, well it can run away even faster. This past year has been full of highs as well as lows. I made it to New York just 2 days after being diagnosed, I moved back to Leicester to finish my degree and I’ve learnt more about myself than I thought possible. One thing I’ve been so thankful of over the last year is the support I’ve received and being able to find a community that understands. My friends and family have been beyond supportive in every respect. There have been times, during flares and such, where I’ve been quite ready to just say “what’s the point in it all?” But actually, in those moments I’ve been lucky enough to have people who make me laugh, and remind me that losing the battle today does not mean that I’m going to lose the war.
I’ve come to realise that my body really is something I took for granted before. Not a day goes by where my body isn’t constantly fighting against itself, yet it doesn’t give in. Day after day it gets me out of bed and gets me through the day. Granted some days are slower and longer than others, but thats okay. I’ve come to terms with the brain fog and the tiredness that so often make me slow, and so have the people around me. I’ve learnt to just laugh at the stupid things I come out with now instead of getting frustrated. I rest when my body tells me to now because life becomes that much harder when I don’t.
I still think that some people don’t really understand IBD or chronic illness and that’s okay because there’s still things I don’t even understand. If you don’t want to know or take the time to understand, then fair, I completely get that because why should you? But theres something to be said for the people who do sit and try to understand, it means more than the world to me when somebody genuinely wants to know if theres anything they can do to help or just want to understand. I’m still trying to find a way to express how living with this makes me feel but knowing there are people who care, and having a huge support system out there who understand, really does help.
So I thought I’d leave you with some of the things I’ve learnt over the last year that I wish I’d been told to begin with.
You will get used to using public restrooms. I had the biggest thing about public toilets before, I hated them and would rather wait to the point of bursting than go in them. However, now I don’t even bat an eyelid now. And I chuckle when I hear people make comments about how they hate them, because that was me. But when you don’t have a choice, you don’t have a choice. I think something that comes with this is the ability to scout out every toilet, no matter where you go. As soon as I go anywhere, the first thing I make sure I know is where all the toilets are as well as where the places to sit and rest are. Soon this becomes second nature and you won’t even have to think about it.
Only going to the toilet twice a day will feel like the biggest victory you could ask for. And thats because it is sometimes. So celebrate it, because that means somethings working, and after weeks, maybe months of dealing with a different outcome (for me it was 10-12 times a day), this is huge. I promise you, you will never feel relief like it, so don’t feel silly about this victory seeming small, I couldn’t quite believe it when it happened to me.
You are not as predictable as you were before. I like to have a plan, to know exactly what I’m doing and when. This is something that I really struggled with after being diagnosed, because I had no idea how my body was going to feel or behave day to day. Unpredictable wasn’t a word I really liked using but I rambled my way through and now I’m in a position where I’m able to plan and make room for the unpredictable. Just because something inside you has changed, in no way means you have to. There are ways around everything and with some patience and lots of trying, you’ll find yourself back to your old self in no time.
Your body has become a home constantly under attack so listen to its battlecry. The quicker you accept this the better. It’s not admitting defeat, it’s admitting change. The hardest thing I’ve had to learn is to actually listen to my body. Rest when you’re tired, don’t skip that meal because you need to do something else, make sure you’re drinking enough to stay dehydrated. Your body is doing an amazing job at keeping you able to function but sometimes it needs help, so help it. Listen to what you need and do it. Don’t do what I did and just push through assuming you’ll be fine, because you won’t be and when your body can’t cope anymore, it will crash and burn and that is the hardest thing to come back from.
So, weirdly, happily anniversary to me I guess. Here’s to another year of learning, living life, and not letting this thing win.

Pizza Express At Home.

So you may have seen that a little while ago, I ended up having lunch in Pizza Express and I had an amazing meal. Well, when food shopping a few days ago, I noticed this pizza was reduced and I wondered if I would get the same, great tasting pizza at home. Lets just say the words ‘pleasently surprised’ and ‘Pizza Express’ seem to be going together more than I thought.
I decided I would add some salami and oregano to give some more flavour and that’s all I had laying around in the fridge. I was worried about the base, because it looked quite doughy and I was worried that it wouldn’t crisp at all.

Well, it’s safe to say there was no need to worry. When I took the pizza out, it looked and smelt glorious. I don’t particularly like crispy bases on pizza’s, which is why I tend to stray from thin bases, but this was just right. The base cooked perfectly, while not crispy was firm and held its shape. I honestly don’t think anyone would have guessed that this was a gluten-free base. While I don’t think it was as amazing at the one in the restaurant, it was a pretty good comparison, and when I get a hankering for pizza in the future, I’ll definitely be picking this up again!

Rewatching Favourite Movies From My Teens.

So at this point, I’m pretty sure that daytime TV is going to kill me. Luckily, the other day I stumbled across Step Up and thought ‘why not’? So armed with a cup of tea and a box of chocolates, I was ready to get all nostalgic and I wasn’t disappointed! I was taken back to the days where I would watch it on repeat in the hopes that I would learn the routines, which were never successful by the way. So I’ve had a bit of a crappy month and I decided that it would be a great idea to rewatch some of my favourite films from when I was a teen.

Step Up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo90EDmxfGg
Obviously! This just reminded me of all the times I spent in the living room attempting to do the dances, and failing. It has some really amazing dance routines, a love story that isn’t shoved in your face, and Channing Tatum, what more could you want?! I remember watching the second one and definitely not enjoying it as much as this one and I’ve never watched the others. Step Up is a classic that makes even the worst dancers (me) feel like they can throw down some awesome moves.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

cosmopolitan

I think I watched this film to absolute death. It’s the ultimate teenage chick flick filled with boys, drama and obviously perfect snogging! (Does anyone even say snogging these days!?) There is a little bit of all of us in Georgia, whether we relate to her embarrassing parents, worrying about boys, whether your best friend is being a bit ‘slaggy’, or maybe just questioning if shaving your eyebrows is the best idea (spoiler – never a good idea). As a teenager, I understood her and watching this made me worry a little less about the drama in my own life. Now, it makes me cringe, but in a good way. (Is there such a thing?) It brought back memories that I had forgotten about and made me appreciate how the really small things can seem colossal when you’re that age, but that’s okay, because it’s all a part of finding yourself and growing up.

A Cinderella Story

tumblr

I wont lie, I still watch this every time I see it’s on ITV2, because how could you not. It’s funny, heartwarming and gives us hope that there is a prince charming out there for everyone. There’s also Chad Michael Murray too. A modern retelling of Cinderella, complete with evil stepmother and sisters, this is the perfect film to curl up with while eating your body weight in ice cream when you need convincing that there is truly a prince charming waiting for you somewhere. Most importantly, it’s about believing in yourself and staying true to who you are, a lesson that is so so important to try and learn when you are young.

13 Going On 30

I think this film is every girls fantasy when she’s a young teen. You just want to grow up. You just want to be an ‘adult’ (whatever that means). While this film, even now, is hilarious, it still makes me realise that maybe I need to cherish the little moments a bit more. Having a girls night in with snacks and face masks or just allowing yourself to be creative and not worried about what others will think, sometimes when you’re busy being an ‘adult’ you can forget about the things that you love and what makes you truly you. Also Mark Ruffalo, yes please.

She’s The Man

buzzfeed

This is just a good old fashioned rom-com that I can watch over and over. It still makes me chuckle, and despite not seeing it for a good few years, I can still recite almost every word. And yes, I’m well aware this is another film with Channing Tatum in, clearly I have a thing. This is another film that’s all about going for what you want and not letting anyone stand in your way. I think that as you get older, you lose your ability to just throw caution to the wind and just do what makes you truly happy and doing anything and everything you can to get there, even if you have to pretend to be a guy.

Pizza Express – Harlow.

On a recent last minute mid-week shopping trip to try and find an outfit for an upcoming event (which was unsuccessful), we decided to stop for lunch to fuel up. Now – I haven’t been to Harlow since Christmas time and it still amazes me with how few places there are to eat, especially with the added hurdle of finding somewhere gluten-free. However, after a lot of ‘um-ing’ and ‘ah-ing’, we decided that we should just give Pizza Express a go because I’d heard that they had some GF options.
This is probably one of the smallest branches of Pizza Express that I’ve ever been to but it was perfect for an early afternoon stop, it wasn’t busy and we were seated at a lovely booth at the back. I can imagine that on a busy Saturday night that it is a little cramped. When I asked for a GF menu, the waitress happily handed me the normal menu and told me that I could have anything marked with a GF symbol or if I wanted, any pizza on a gluten-free base. I was so surprised that I could have any pizza on their menu! Admittedly, there weren’t many other GF options, but then why would you need them when you’re able to get pizza!
When I saw the GF dough balls, I did an internal squeal. I’ve had my fair share of dough balls, but these take the trophy for best GF ones. They’re ever so slightly sweet which I loved, I would have happily just sat and eaten a huge plate of them, five is definitely not enough for me!

Honestly, I scoured the menu for ages trying to decide which pizza I wanted. Having such a big selection left me wanting to try everything! I finally decided on the Margherita Bufala, which consisted of buffalo mozzarella, tomato, fresh basil, fresh tomato, garlic oil and oregano. Let me tell you, I haven’t had a pizza this good in quite some time. I was worried about the base because I’ve not had a great experience with GF pizza bases, but there was no need. It was perfect – not doughy and not too crispy, just the way I like it! It was so fresh and delicious, I could have quite easily eaten a whole other one. If there was one thing I would change, I’d have more oregano, but that’s just because I’m a oregano fiend!

Gluten-free or not, if you’re in the mood for great tasting pizza, then definitely check out Pizza Express, they’ve definitely upped their game since I last visited. I honestly raved about my pizza for the rest of the day – so don’t be surprised if you see me back there in a few weeks.

What I'm Reading – May.

The Name of This Books is Secret and If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late – Pseudonymous Bosch

I read the first book in this series, ‘The Name of This Book is Secret’ years and years ago but I loved it! I put the box set on my amazon wishlist and thats where it sat for years. Then for Christmas just gone I printed off my amazon book wishlist to give to my mum, save having her trying to remember the books I’d have liked. And low and behold, Christmas morning I was unwrapping this. Since I first read it, they’ve had a cover change, which honestly I wasn’t too fond of to begin with, but it’s grown on me and I love the fact that they all match and look pretty on my shelf now.
Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas
Illuminae – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Both of these books are ones that I’ve picked up and started in the last year but haven’t finished. Illuminae was a book that intrigued me because of the way it was set out. I love books that incorporate picture, diagrams, folders and things because I think it immerses you even more in the story. However, after reading a fair chunk of this, I wasn’t sure if I was getting on with the layout. That being said – I really do want to get around to finishing this because I have heard nothing but good things about it. Throne of Glass is a book that I loved when I was reading it, but when I went to uni I forgot it and it somehow made its way to the back of my bookcase and I’ve only recently pulled it back out. We all know that everything Sarah J. Maas writes is gold, so I can’t wait to sink my teeth back into this.
Down and out in Paris and London – George Orwell

I’m not going to lie, I don’t really know what this one is about. But I’ve decided that I’d like to read more of the classics and I’ve had this one for such a long time, I thought I should just give it a go.

Lessons I've Learnt Since Having IBD.

You have to trust your body

the relentless reader

I was always one that would just power through when I was ill and not take the time to let my body have the time to heal. I’ve now learnt how important it is that you listen to your body and what it needs. When you’re tired, take a break or have a nap, when you don’t think something feels right, question it, the worst thing you can do is ignore it.
Friends and family are the best support system you could ask for
huffington post

I would not have been able to make it this far had it not been for my family or friends. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is ask for help or to ask for people to be patient with you, sometimes it’s the best thing you can do.
Rest days are very important
tumblr

I used to make a joke about feeling like an old woman when I took a nap in the afternoon, but napping is now a regular occurrence. Some weeks I am absolutely fine and can function without stopping. But most weeks I’ll ache and get so tired that I simply have to nap just to make it through the day. When I have a busy few days coming up I make sure that the day before I don’t get up to much, I try and conserve as much energy as possible so that I’ll be on top form for whatever I have planned. Taking a day to yourself just to rest and recover is no bad thing, in fact it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.
People don’t tend to think before they speak
teen

To most people, saying ‘get better soon’ or ‘I’m sure it’ll get better’ are not comments they think twice about saying or receiving. However, when you have a chronic illness, there is sometimes no getting better soon. And while I do appreciate the sentiment behind it, it offers me no comfort. Instead say ‘I hope tomorrow isn’t as difficult’ or just listen, often you don’t need to say anything, just listening to me rant for 10 minutes about how I’m having a bad day is enough.
Fuck anyone who gives you a dirty look when you use a disabled toilet
giphy

You’d be surprised how many times this has happened to me. I don’t often use the disabled toilet but when I have done I usually get very dirty looks. The only reason for this that I can think of is because I have no visible disability. But that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t be allowed to use a facility whereby I will feel less judged and more comfortable. Having something like IBD means that we have little control over our toilet habits, and when there’s the possibility that I may feel uncomfortable because of the smell/sound/duration of my toilet visit I feel I have every right to use a toilet where I will feel more comfortable. Just because you don’t see the problem, doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
EveryBODY is different
romper

This is something that I try to stress to everybody that I talk to. When it comes to IBD, there are physically no two bodies that act the same way. Some people get tired and ache while others get sick and have stomach cramps. Some people get no symptoms while others get every single symptom under the sun. So while I am really glad that your sister’s boyfriend’s mum’s condition became easier to deal with when she followed a paleo diet, please don’t try and convince me that the same will happen to me if I do it too. While I do take on board what has worked for other people, it’s a long and often tiring process to find things that do work for you, the assumption that everything works for everyone is just bad practice.

I always get sucked into the 99p deals, I'm a sucker for a deal! However, is it a deal when you have hundreds of books on your kindle already that you haven't read yet? 🤣 This month I picked up:

✨️ The Enigma of Room 622
✨️ Happy Place
✨️ The Wolf and the Woodsman
✨️ Notes on Heartbreak
✨️ Her Majesty's Royal Coven
✨️ Merideth Alone

Have you picked any of these up? Read any? Let me know! ☺️

Have I been telling absolutely everyone who would lend me an ear about how absolutely fantastic this new musical is? Yes, yes I have! I booked this back in November on a complete whim! Mostly because in the email I got, it was described as "part Mel Brooks, part Six, part Hamilton with a side order of One Man, Two Guvnors", and if that doesn't hook you I don't know what will! Other than the brief synopsis in the email, I went in blind, knowing nothing about the show, the music or the actors but man do I want to shout about them now.

Firstly, the Fortune Theatre felt like the perfect kind of venue for a show like this, surprisingly intimate and like you were actually involved in the action. From the very first song, I was hooked, I knew that I was in for a good one! The actors were all absolutely phenomenal, each one with comical timing that was absolutely on the money along with some fantastic pipes that were definitely easy on the ears. I laughed, I teared up, I didn't want it to end, everything from the music to the staging was absolute perfection if you ask me. @spitlip aren't a group I'd heard of before, but certainly won't be one I forget fast. I will absolutely without a single doubt be going to see this again before it closes, and only pray that it actually sticks around. Potentially the best new musical I've seen in a very, very long time! Go get your tickets now, old chap! ✌️
